JAMB tells HND graduates,don’t blame us for your inability to particapate for NYSC. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has asked HND graduates not to blame the JND for their failure to attend the recent National Youth Service Corps. The board was responding to claims by NYSC candidates that it was the board’s fault for their failure to attend the mandatory one-year programme.
“It is important to emphasise that JAMB has no involvement, authority or control whatsoever in the admission process of HND candidates,” the body said in a statement on Monday by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin. The statement read: “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board wishes to clarify its position on recent allegations by some HND graduates falsely criticising JAMB for failing them to sit the mandatory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). It is important to emphasise that JAMB has no involvement, authority or control whatsoever in the admission process of HND candidates.
“The candidates alleged that they completed their HND full-time but were not mobilised because they completed their OND part-time. What on earth could JAMB be concerned about when it so states in Section 5(2) of the Act that established JAMB?” “For the avoidance of doubt, the Board is responsible for determining the admission requirements and conducting the examinations leading to admission into Bachelor’s degree programmes, and to National Diploma and Nigerian Certificate of Education courses.
The Board is not, however, responsible for any examinations or other selection procedures for postgraduate or other courses offered by the University. “Most of the students were reportedly allowed to pursue their National Diploma (ND) at the University without the Board’s knowledge.
Hence, the Board kindly approved your admission into the ND programme and that became its only relationship with these candidates. “Your subsequent admission into HND is unknown and has nothing to do with the Board’s purview. It is therefore unreasonable to accuse the organisation of a matter over which it has no jurisdiction.
“Some of these candidates have crossed the line of criminality, which will soon be appropriately addressed by the panel. “The public is requested to disregard the allegations made against the panel as the panel has no jurisdiction in this matter.”
