Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Group, has explained why the first samples of Premium Motor Spirit (commonly known as gasoline) taken from the company’s refinery appear clearer than gasoline currently in circulation. Speaking at the refinery in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, Dangote stressed that clearer gasoline is more environmentally friendly and could help reduce health issues linked to contaminated petroleum products.
He noted that the new gasoline would also protect engines from damage caused by opaque gasoline commonly available in the market. He said, “This is a sample of gasoline. It looks different colour but this is the real gasoline.” Now you will have a good and authentic product. Once this refinery is operational, it will give us a clear picture of Nigeria’s true consumption.
“We will be able to track every truck load and every ship load,” he said. He also explained that his refinery will cater to the demand of not only Nigerians but also sub-Saharan countries. According to a report by Clear Voice News, Dangote and other local refineries have repeatedly accused international oil companies of not selling crude oil to local refineries. On the color of the diesel, Dangote explained, “Nigerians surely have never seen diesel in this color.” It is called Euro 5 diesel.

This is the real deal. ” Prior to the presentation, Dangote Group management explained that international oil majors are insisting on selling crude oil to their refineries through foreign agents. They claimed that local crude oil prices continue to rise as trading companies are offering cargoes at $2 to $4 per barrel higher than the official price set by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. The group also claimed that foreign oil producers seem to be in favor of selling Nigerian crude oil to Asian countries.
In August, Clear Voice News reported that Dangote Refinery was in a dispute with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission over alleged shipments of 29 million barrels of crude oil to the refinery. The Dangote Group alleged that its refineries were not receiving enough locally produced crude oil and accused the NUPRC of failing to effectively enforce domestic crude supply regulations. NUPRC denied these allegations and said it facilitated the shipment of over 29 million barrels of crude oil to Dangote between January and June 2024. NUPRC maintained that it ensured domestic crude oil supplies to the Dangote refinery and other refineries through its monthly production cut platform.
