Deaf, dumb parents heartbroken over missing five-month-old baby in Osun.
The Osun State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched an investigation into the abduction of a five-month-old baby on a farm in Agbeye town. According to the NSCDC, the incident occurred when the child’s mother, who was nearby collecting firewood, returned to find her baby missing from under a tree where she had left the child to breastfeed.
The command expressed deep concern over the rising cases of missing children in the state, noting that between August 2 and 27, three different cases of missing underaged persons were reported.
Dr. Michael Adaralewa, the Osun NSCDC Commandant, revealed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kehinde Adeleke, that the parents of the abducted baby are both deaf and dumb.
The statement also recounted an earlier incident on August 2, where a one-year and three-month-old boy was kidnapped in the Osunjela community. According to the investigation, a woman named Tawa, introduced by a family friend to the child’s mother, abducted the baby on her first day at work. Tawa reportedly took the child while pretending to play with him and disappeared after sending the baby’s 10-year-old sister on an errand.
On the same day, another report was made about a three-year-old child who went missing on Ifesowapo Street, Owode, Osogbo. The child was last seen playing in a shop, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The most recent case involves the five-month-old girl abducted on August 27 in Agbeye town, Odo-Otin local government area. The baby’s mother, who is deaf and dumb, had left her child under a tree while she gathered firewood nearby. Upon returning to breastfeed, she found her baby had vanished.
Dr. Adaralewa assured the public that the command is making every effort to apprehend those responsible for these abductions. He urged artisans and employers to conduct thorough background checks on potential employees and advised parents to closely monitor their children, emphasizing the importance of their safety, especially during the holiday season.
